The School Day and Activities

Our school day is designed to provide general knowledge of the prayers, Hindi language and the Indian culture, which includes history geography, religion, holidays, custom, costume and sports.

Class Schedule

(1)Prayers: We start our day by sitting down in circle and the host family children starts our school prayers everyone is expected to recite the prayers loudly. The parents are also expected to recite the prayers.

(2)Story Time: Upon conclusion of our prayers, host family children are expected to say a small story or poem with a moral. This is a great public speaking experience for our children as well as a good lesson in life.

After the children's story we promote that the host family parents also say a story of anecdote to every one to provide a lesson in life for all of us.

(3) Announcements: After the prayers and story time general announcements are done by the principal and anyone else who has a special announcement. We also recognize all special visitors at this time.

(4) Hindi Classes: Around 10:50 AM all teachers and students should report to their assigned classroom area for the Hindi class. If the teacher finds that they have too many students he/she requests other volunteers to provide assistance with teaching.

(5) Culture Classes: Around 11:25 AM all teachers and students should report to their assigned classroom area for the Culture class. Some time teachers may find it necessary to gather two groups in one culture class if the teachers determine that the subject area may benefit the group.

(6) Lunch Set-UP: While the classes are going on all parents who are not participating in the teaching activities are recommended to be respectful of classes that are in session. They are also requested to assist in setting up of tables and chairs for the lunch period.

(7) Lunch Time: Around 11:55 AM all classes are completed and everyone is requested to join in for the light lunch. Every one is requested to have their lunch in the assigned lunch area and be careful of food and drinks so it does not spill on the carpet. Due to YWCA request, please do not take your lunch anywhere else.

(8) Conclusion: Upon conclusion of lunch everyone is requested to participate in clean up of the facility and trash. Around 12:20 PM everyone is requested to join in for the singing of the Indian National Anthem.



The only variation in class schedule is when extra practice is needed for the Diwali or Sthapana program. During the extra practice period the school starts at 10:00 AM and the entire schedule is moved up by 30 minutes. The extra dance/drama practice is held from 11:25 AM to 12:00PM and lunch period is from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM. During the extra practice period all students are requested to be present and follow the direction of their dance/drama teacher.
